If I am not mistaken, Orkut was killed by Google after yet another attempt to own a social network.

Started by a Google employee, then the operations were taken over by Google, and finally Google shut it down to make people move to Google+.

And then added to the infinite pile of unsuccessful products that they give up in the end 😬

It’s sad because Orkut was a very nice social network.
