Yes, I read the book and had the same thought! I actually trekked to the bus soon after the book came out, and I recently saw it in Fairbanks at the Univ. of Alaska. Maybe I'll post a slideshow.

The helicoptered the bus out and it was brought to the Univ of Fairbanks for restoration.
