Is the $BASE token really never going to launch?
When Base first launched, the hottest topic was whether $BASE would ever exist. Let's revisit this discussion.
🔴 Bearish:
1. Coinbase, a publicly traded company since 2021, must comply with SEC regulations.
2. In June 2023, the SEC sued Coinbase for allegedly trading unregistered securities. (Case dismissed in 2025)
3. On Dec 1, 2024, CEO
@brian_armstrong
stated, "No plans to launch a Base token."
4. Base’s official X (Twitter) bio explicitly states no token plans.
5. The existing OP Stack governance model makes launching a new token unnecessary.
🟢 Bullish:
1. With the SEC dropping its lawsuit on Feb 21, 2025, Coinbase now operates in a more flexible regulatory environment.
Based on the facts, the likelihood of a $BASE token remains very low. But while it was 0% before, maybe there's now a slight chance?
