Easy solution is right in front of us and the most basic use-case for crypto/blockchain becomes rusted brands / people sign messages with publicly verifiable eth wallets to certify their authenticity. 

Someone misquotes you in the news or publishes a deepfake about you? “Anti-sign” it with your trusted account refuting it as truth. Effectively publicly marking it “spam”.

Verifiable, permissionless, exceptionally lightweight.

Those grey beards with the PGP keys in their emails back in the day had it right.
