on my last flight I saw this talk, loved it
haven’t been familiar with Jack before, his story is impressive and deeply personal
the talk itself is deep, he knows the topic, problems creators face on a level I’ve not seen in a while
and great one to learn on the storytelling part as well
now on the topic itself, and that’s the thinking I came down to as well a few years back
most people, especially in creative fields, don’t want to come up with a unicorn size startup or a company
and most founders of digital products want exactly that, maximize profits, get another VC round, sell
we already see quite well what happens to those companies who get sold in the end - instagram is a great example of how a great app people loved to use - turned into an ad money making machine addicting people to stay in as long as possible… how many people got happier with that sell? a handful of vcs and original founders?

on farcaster I see a lot of communities have been built since the start of the year
I’m really glad to have become a part of some of them, and continuously exploring more
That’s where the value locks in on my opinion, each community is focused on something, in some cases you can get direct feedback or help, in others you support the founder and enjoy their content, or all of it combined
Now this value locked community, even when small, doesn’t have to scale to stay meaningful, on the opposite, with scale it will likely fall apart.
Ted’s club with 69 members, from the outside, looks like a great success.
While being this small, founder of the community can easily make enough for the living and to keep producing the art or keep doing other valuable things to keep people together
As Jack calls those - super fans. To me, posting something on tik tok makes no sense, even if you’ll get a billion views, everyone will forget about it tomorrow, and you as a creator just spent hours on nothing lasting 1 reply
