Maryam Mirzakhani, an elite mathematician, professor at Stanford University, was the first woman and the first Iranian to win the Fields Medal. Mirzakhani died in 2017 at the age of 40 due to cancer. Her birthday, May 22, is named International Women in Mathematics Day. A source of pride for Iran and the world
