why do people care about the active/power badge so much? like just keep casting and stop thinking about badges?

social recognition. and when used as a pre-req for other things (say mints, events, etc) it becomes a (non-xferable) currency = value also we like goals esp when they are accompanied by rewards... we're all gamers after all
