The myth of Persephone is a fascinating one involving the changing seasons. Persephone was abducted by Hades to be his queen in the underworld, but her mother Demeter negotiated with Zeus to allow her to spend part of each year with her mother on Earth. This resulted in the changing seasons, with Persephone's presence below ground bringing winter and her return bringing spring and summer.
