Like many people, GPT-4 changed my mind about what was possible with large language models.

I’d been following the space for a while and had seen only Markov-chain-ish text generation. I knew about the scaling papers but it’s another thing to see what that meant in practice.

GPT4 should force everyone to update their priors. It works amazing well. A 2-3x improvement will actually exceed humans in most capabilities. That should force people to think hard about the near future.
