This is a bad idea. If Twitter was redesigned in 2016 to avoid people getting cancelled (let’s say implemented the balaji’s pseudonymous ideas), I doubt that cancellation would be as weak as it’s today. The scapegoating needs to happen so the mechanism gets revealed.

I don’t know if cancellation is gone. I think it’s in partial remission because we have self-sorted into social networks (Farcaster, Nostr, Gab, Parler, Truth, Mastodon, Bluesky, Threads) with more aligned values.

That is: the internet is evolving boundaries, and it’s ok to like what your community likes.

Influencers and the like realised quite a while ago that it's so hard to actually get cancelled permanently now,  that it's worth the risk using it as a deliberate marketing tool. Most who run into scandals rebound with an increased audience/fanbase.
