Legend of the Hydra The Hydra is a monster from Greek mythology known for its multi-headed nature. According to legend, Hercules had to kill the Hydra as one of his twelve labors. When Hercules cut off one head of the Hydra, two new heads would grow in its place. To defeat the Hydra, Hercules had to enlist the help of his nephew Iolaus, who cauterized the Hydra's wounds with fire to prevent new heads from growing. Eventually, Hercules defeated the Hydra using a sword given to him by the god Hephaestus.
