A growing trade war? Trump says China ‘wants to make a deal’ But top US trade official suggests Beijing has not sought talks with Washington as deadline for additional tariffs looms. With the clock ticking for additional United States tariffs to be placed on goods from China, President Donald Trump has said he is waiting for a call from Beijing to defuse a growing trade war. After a phone call with South Korea’s acting president, Han Duck-soo, on Tuesday, Trump said South Korean officials are travelling to the US for trade talks. He added that “many other countries” want to open economic negotiations with Washington.

What do y’all think about this tweet from Mister President? He’s claiming the U.S. is raking in billions from tariffs, inflation is dead, and China’s crashing while raising tariffs even more. Also says past leaders let other countries walk all over us. Hot take or hard facts? Curious where this community stands—agree, disagree, somewhere in between?

While many nations are scrambling to strike tariffs deals with Trump, China is standing up to him, hoping to turn “crisis into opportunity.” Within 48 hours of Trump’s market-hammering tariffs announcement, the world’s second-largest economy swiftly retaliated with its own punitive measures on US goods and firms.

For weeks, US airstrikes have pounded Houthi targets in Yemen, hitting oil refineries, airports and missile sites, with President Trump vowing to use “overwhelming force” until the US achieves its goal of stopping the Houthis from targeting shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis began the campaign in solidarity with Palestinians when Israel went to war in Gaza in October 2023. The group has carried out more than 100 attacks and have sunk two vessels. The result: 70% of merchant shipping that once transited the Red Sea now takes the long route around southern Africa.

So... 1,200+ protests. All 50 states. Today felt different. People are angry—not just at Trump, but at everything happening under his watch: mass layoffs of federal workers, immigrant families being torn apart, trans rights under attack, health programs getting slashed. It’s not just “politics” anymore. It’s people’s lives. What stood out to me the most was how many different groups came together—LGBTQ+ folks, vets, labor unions, civil rights orgs. When you see that kind of unity, you know something real is happening. Anyone else feel like this is the spark of something bigger? Curious what others are seeing in their cities.

Opponents of US President Donald Trump and his adviser, billionaire Elon Musk, have joined rallies across the United States to protest against the administration’s actions to overhaul the government and expand presidential authority. More than 1,200 “Hands Off” rallies were expected on Saturday, with organisers anticipating the largest single-day mobilisation opposing the administration’s recent initiatives. Protest sites included the National Mall in Washington, DC, where organisers expected more than 20,000 people to attend, and locations in all 50 US states.

Trump just slapped a 34% tariff on Chinese goods—on top of the 20% earlier this year. That’s 54% total. In response, China’s hitting back with more tariffs and curbs on rare earth exports. This trade war isn’t just headlines—it could drive up prices everywhere and rattle global supply chains. Is this strategic leverage… or economic self-sabotage? Curious what others think: Smart move to protect U.S. industries? Or a reckless escalation that hurts us more than them? Let’s talk.

Top Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev said Thursday he did not raise sanctions relief in his meetings with the Trump administration in Washington, DC, but he said the punitive measures could be lifted to allow more US business with Russia. “At this point, we are not asking for any sanction relief. We are just discussing that if America wants to have more business with Russia … then of course US can do so,”

Massive New Tariffs Incoming—How Will This Hit Your Wallet? Trump just announced huge new tariffs on imports from China (54%), Vietnam (46%), Cambodia (49%), and the EU (20%). Starting May 2, even small packages under $800 from China (AliExpress, Temu, Shein, etc.) will get slapped with the 54% rate. For context: The U.S. imported $439B worth of goods from China last year. These new tariffs mean higher prices for consumers and potential retaliation from trading partners. Trump claims these tariffs just "match" what other countries charge us. But the numbers seem... murky. Regardless, this could shake up global trade and hit wallets hard. Do you think this is a necessary move to protect American jobs, or is it just another tax on consumers? How will this impact your business or spending habits?

Four Senate Republicans joined with Democrats on Wednesday to deliver a rare bipartisan rebuke to President Donald Trump over trade policy. The Senate adopted a resolution by a vote of 51 to 48 aimed at blocking the Trump administration’s proposed tariffs on Canadian imports. The four Republicans who voted with Democrats were: Sens. Rand Paul, who cosponsored the resolution, Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski.

President Donald Trump’s promised tariffs are a day away – and they’ll go into effect sooner than some had expected. As in, immediately, the White House said Tuesday. Although many details remain unknown, perhaps even to Trump himself, the administration’s “Liberation Day” trade policy announcement is expected to be the most aggressive tariff move yet by the most tariff-obsessed president in modern history. Trump is meeting with his trade team Tuesday and the tariffs he announces at a Rose Garden ceremony at 4 pm ET Wednesday will go into effect “immediately,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday a press briefing.

For weeks, President Donald Trump has promoted April 2 as “Liberation Day” in America, when a number of massive tariffs will be announced to fulfill the administration’s ambitious economic agenda. The plan has largely remained a mystery, however, as Trump and his administration have floated a number of constantly changing and conflicting proposals. Now we know a little more about what to expect. A very little bit: We now know how it will be announced. Maybe.

Trump's Big Gamble: Is America Ready for Tariff-Fueled Prosperity? This week, President Donald Trump is putting it all on the line. In a bold move that could reshape the U.S. economy, he’s betting the success of his second term, the financial future of millions, and the country’s economic independence on one core belief: tariffs can bring back the golden age of American wealth. But is this the answer, or a risky gamble with far-reaching consequences? Tariffs were supposed to bolster American jobs and industries, but how will they impact everyday Americans — prices, jobs, and the global market? What’s your take: Will Trump's tariff strategy pay off, or will it backfire? 💭

A German start-up’s orbital rocket spun out and crashed seconds after take-off Sunday, in a rare European test flight that the makers said “met its set goals.” The flight, from a spaceport in northern Norway, marked the first time a rocket capable of reaching orbit was launched from continental Europe excluding Russia, manufacturer Isar Aerospace said.

$300M Spent on Border Crackdown—At What Cost? The Trump admin has poured $300M+ into a massive military effort at the southern border—despite pledging to cut government spending, including an 8% reduction to the Defense budget. That includes $250M in just one month for military deportation flights, troop deployments, and expanding Guantanamo for migrants. Is this tough enforcement or wasteful spending? Where do you stand?
