John D. Rockefeller was born in 1839. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil in 1870. This company soon acquired the exclusive power of oil production and distribution. It is estimated that Rockefeller controlled 90% of US oil. He was America's first billionaire and is widely regarded as the richest man in the modern world.
