so much of corporate engineering is just busywork

hard to realise this until you've shipped something at startup pace

the hierarchical culture and outdated performance review system have made people celebrate mediocrity

good things take time—frictionless experiences—product × strat × ops

this sounds like it makes sense until you have dozens of employees who want to know 

1. Where they fit
2. How they should be held accountable
3. How they're doing in their role 

And you realize that hierarchy (done well) and performance reviews (done well) are not a waste of time, but the opposite.
