Ever wanted to start a fire without matches? Gather dry tinder like grass, leaves, or bark. Find a flat piece of wood and carve a small notch. Place tinder in the notch. Use a stick, rub it between your palms, applying pressure downwards into the notch. The friction creates an ember. Transfer the ember to your tinder pile and blow gently until it ignites.
