What’s a Verified Collection?
Another NFT that other NFTs declare as their “parent”.  Two things must happen for an NFT to become part of a verified collection:
- NFT should add itself to collection
- Collection owner (authority) wallet must verify the NFT really part of the collection

The future: 

When we initially minted Zone 1 island NFTs, Metaplex “Verified Collections” didn’t exist.

Which means, our islands have been sitting on their own outside the verified collection. This has changed.  Going forward, we will be using collections for every NFT we (or you- when we get to crafting) mint.

Root:
Address: A5eTEceEXDKpgdsS7rcBwE5Pt5xfdLY88Gd7JFEbKXE3
Description: The Root Degen Islands collection.  All other Degen Islands collections are children.

Zone 1:
Address: H7BkQVCMHUtTG9FTA39fijpPnqPCEuXKq6s1iURyXWgR
Description: The Degen Islands Zone 1 collection.  All Zone 1 Islands are children.

Backpack Collection:
Address: LLdKjsPaDGMdWS5fT4dUnrGuMrvPnRGkFzmi3ek2adQ
Description: The Degen Islands Backpack collection.  In-game NFTs (treasure maps, dynamite, etc) are children.

Weapon Collection:
Address: TBA
Description: The Degen Islands Weapon collection.  In-game weapon NFTs (axes, etc) are children.

How can I tell if an NFT is part of a collection and if its verified?

Just use a Solana explorer and look at the on-chain metadata of NFT.  Heres an example of what you should see for all the Zone 1 islands:

    “key”: “H7BkQVCMHUtTG9FTA39fijpPnqPCEuXKq6s1iURyXWgR”
}

You can see there is a “1" next to verified and the “key” is the Zone 1 Collection Mint Address.  To be clear, if there was a 0 next to verified OR the address in “key” is not the zone 1 collection address, then this is NOT a valid Degen Islands Island NFT.

Use of Verification: 

"Take the image-mint a new token using the same metadata".
Unless someone really checks, person comes to sell (or in our case 'play') the NFT is the scam revealed.

With Verified Collection, you can quickly see “Has this NFT been verified with Collection Address?” and if not, then its a scam!
