I see the future as one giant state space and aggregated proofs for global state consistency (and aggregated liquidity etc) then hundreds of zkapps acting like roll-ups, some zkevm, some zkvm, some static zk circuits. These are expansion cards on the world computer, and will range from specialized with cheap transactions to generalized with more expensive transactions. Both sides of the spectrum will be important and iterated on, just like how we still have CPUs/GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs in all of our every day computing devices. The idea that everything will be a specialized zk circuits presupposes that use cases will never change, and is about as silly as the idea that all our computing devices will be run with ASICs eventually because everyone wants to do the same thing with computers.
