If you are on the fence about learning to dive but perhaps fearful about being underwater, or are generally curious about the hobby/sport, feel free to ask questions in this channel! As a PADI instructor and AIDA freediver, I'll be happy to help

How would you characterize your fear of being underwater? Is it claustrophobia? Does it manifest itself when you’re in a pool and duck under water?

mostly scared by the feeling that im under water & cannot reach bottom (e.g. in a pool that's deeper than my own height) & if anything happens i cannot stand up, reach bottom & save myself. not sure if it fell w/ claustrophobia?

Is it that you’re perhaps not confident enough in your own swimming capabilities? Wanting to be within standing depth is generally not something that proficient swimmers worry about.

Yeah I definitely recommend getting to a point where you feel very comfortable swimming in water too deep to stand before you consider scuba diving. Open water is never as calm and clear as pool water, so you need to build confidence first. Keep in mind that in diving, you’ll wear a buoyancy vest at all times (BCD)
