Reminds me of Hemingway’s famous quote: “Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name. In some ways, men can be immortal” Those ripples / echoes of our life extend toward infinity after our death, but they can only travel so far. I don’t even know the names of my great-grandparents, for example; though some of their ripples endure as a chain of consequences (me existing being one of them). Though in the *very* long / cosmic timeline, those ripples crash against the maximum-entropy heat death of the universe, where no trace of anything that ever happened will subsist
