I wonder what share of BTC hodlers are: - maxis who since COVID became super gleeful about monetary debasement (to the point of welcoming it) in the hope that they’ll be the only economic winners - doom-and-gloom survivalists who always expected runaway inflation and have now embraced BTC because of that

btc is just the mother of all crypto, i dont hold any but i can't see why it won't stay top 1 for long (storing wealth digitally wise) eth has a long way to real mainstream adoption to move the needle with smart contracts demand

BTC only pivoted to that digital gold / SoV narrative late in life, though. For the longest time it was simply meant to be P2P electronic cash (though QE-driven inflation hedging was always an undertone, hence the “Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”)

that pivot must have been already somewhere in 2017/2018? I remember early in my crypto days it was already framed as digital SOV

Yep, from 2014 already none of the early legit merchants accepted BTC anymore. And the block size civil war in 2015 + SegWit / Lightning pushed away many of the OGs who swore by the Satoshi WP, leading to ossification and the current meta

Most everyone agrees that Satoshi is either dead or moved on for good (whether they’re a group or an individual)… and therefore if any of Satoshi’s BTC ~1M (worth USD ~60B) moved, it would likely collapse the BTC price hard (and every other crypto with it). I prefer not to entertain the thought 😅
