this is going to be a huge deterrent for the loosely planned europe trips that so much of the world is fond of. really bums me out because my plan is europe for at least early 2024

The unfortunate reality is that “so much of the world” is not even eligible for ETIAS because they are required to obtain a visa for short-term stay, and will continue to be so.

well, that's true. i've owned a really privileged passport my entire life - we should be trending toward *more* privilege for more passports, not less
