This is so true, even the funny bit. In many ways, the Vatican is the direct successor of the Roman Empire and as such behaves. Bergoglio was Italian diaspora, and Provost's parents both have latin roots. Rome's language lived on inside temples worldwide for a whole millenium after the Empire's demise.

Indeed. For all of the drawbacks that an absolutist monarchy obviously has, I was thinking that given how young Provost is, he is part of the very few rulers that can plan their policies in terms of decades.
