idk why it’s so hard for some people to be like “hey i don’t agree with you entirely or maybe even at all but you do make a good point about XYZ”

I like Haidt’s metaphor of the elephant (unconscious emotions, force) and its rider (conscious reason, analytical thinking).

When two people are exchanging, there are really four parties and their combinatorial product involved: two emotional minds times two rational minds.

Sometimes two rational minds can have a rational discourse; that often my experience of Farcaster.

Sometimes a rational mind will speak and an emotional mind will respond. That’s often my experience of Reddit.

And sometimes it’s just two emotional minds battling each other fruitlessly. That’s often my experience of Twitter.
