I’m attending game 11 of the World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore between defending world champion Ding Liren (32 y.o., ELO 2728) and challenger Gukesh Dommaraju (18 y.o., ELO 2783). Score after 10 games so far is tied at 5:5 (1 win each + 8 draws). Tie-breaks will start after game 14 as needed.

Post-match update: Ding Liren (playing black) took 40 minutes to play move 4, which is unusual given how scripted the openings typically are at this level. Then it was Gukesh’s turn to spend a record-breaking one hour thinking about his tenth move. Both players entered the late mid game under significant time control and the pressure was palpable. Ding Liren was fidgeting in his chair from the onset and didn’t look as composed as Gukesh. Both made one mistake (according to the chess engine) but eventually Ding Liren blundered and resigned shortly after. Score is now 6:5 in favor of Gukesh with three games remaining.
