The famous Shiva Linga with a 5-headed serpent (naga) at the Lepakshi Temple in Andhra Pradesh has an intriguing legend attached to its creation. According to folklore, this incredible sculpture was carved by artisans in just three hours. Here's the story behind it: During the construction of the Lepakshi Temple (believed to be built in the 16th century during the Vijayanagara Empire), a group of sculptors and workers were taking a break for lunch. While waiting for food to be prepared, they decided to pass the time by showcasing their skills. Within this short span, the artisans, driven by creativity and expertise, carved the Shiva Linga with the serpent coiled protectively around it.
