Iβve lived in Portugal for many years. The quality of life here is very high if you are financially comfortable. Be prepared to be frustrated by how slow and beaurocratic things can be here. But in general, Portugal benefits from one of the highest sunshine day counts in the world, the Portuguese are friendly and courteous to their neighbours, the pace of life is very relaxing.

It can be quite humid in the winter, so make sure your housing is of good quality and/or use a dehumidifier. Humidity aside, I see Portugal as a cheaper and quieter version of the california coast.
