In Nigeria, the color of a vehicle's number plate indicates the type of vehicle it is, and the background of the plate may also have a meaning:
White and black: Private vehicles
Yellow and black: Commercial vehicles, such as buses, cabs, and haulage trucks
Green: Electric vehicles, but if the letters are white, the vehicle is for private use, and if they are yellow, it is for commercial use
Yellow and red: Vehicles with temporary registration
Red and white: Number plates for vehicle dealers
Black and yellow: Vehicles that are given on rent
Light blue and white: Vehicles belonging to foreign consulates
Purple and green: Diplomatic plates
The first three letters of a Nigerian number plate indicate the Local Government Area where the vehicle was registered. For example, LND is Lagos Mainland LG, LSR is Surulere LG, LSD is Oshodi Isolo LG, and so on. 0 reply
