Democratic Senator from New Jersey (USA) Bob Menendez, who called the first cryptocurrency “an ideal choice for criminals,” was found guilty of accepting bribes. According to NBC News, jurors agreed on all 16 counts, including bribery, extortion, acting as a foreign agent, obstruction of justice and several counts of conspiracy. Menendez accepted funds in cash and gold bullion for the Egyptian and Qatari governments. The senator himself denies the accusations, as does his wife Nadine. He promised to appeal the decision. Sentencing is scheduled for October 29.
