as a Liverpool supporter, I have to say Gerrard clearly beats Viera in the attack.

Viera is better in controlling the game, and in defense.

Couldn't ask for better as captains, inspirational leaders and legendary competitors.

Both highly decorated on international stage with more than 100 caps each.

Had to check the stats (it wasn't obvious to me) but if I could pick only one, I'd take Gerrard over Vieira

It's a tough one...Gerrard is my favourite player of all time but if I have to be objective I would say Vieira edges it for what he brought to attack and defence, whereas Gerrard's strengths were skewed towards attacking side of play. Vieira was perfectly balanced, a complete midfielder.

Vieira is the consistent one. Gerrard is the genius. Higher ceiling, more memorable moments.
