AI won’t be truly autonomous until it can think, learn, and make decisions without constant human input. Right now, AI is impressive, but it still relies on humans to give it tasks, train it, and correct its mistakes. Even self-driving cars, which are one of the closest things we have to autonomous AI, still struggle with unpredictable situations and need human oversight.
For AI to become fully autonomous, it needs a few big breakthroughs:
Better reasoning – AI today follows patterns, but it doesn’t actually “understand” things like a human does.
Memory and learning – AI doesn’t remember past interactions well or improve on its own without retraining.
Real-world adaptability – AI needs to handle unexpected situations in real time, which is tough outside of controlled environments.
We might see more advanced AI in the next 5–10 years, like smarter assistants or semi-autonomous robots, but full autonomy—where AI can operate completely on its own—could be decades away. 0 reply
