and btw, it seems nearly trivial to build this functionality into a certain cabal-ish alt client that leans into exploiting the rules

and slightly horrifying possible consequences.

I say this as a privacy maxi, who is aware of dystopian game theory outcomes -- if everyone stealth follows because the economic incentives WERE CHOSEN to make it the dominant economic strategy, then the world loses the utility of public follows.

Offsetting the economic incentive of stealth following, you have the benefit that your likes + follows train the algo to feed you the content you want to see.

And also, the Sufficiently Decentralized + Wont Be Evil promise that even though they will block certain accounts, your act of following will override that
