The sculpture of the wounded refugee is one of the strangest works of art in the world This sculpture was made and installed in Marseille, France and is the famous work of Bruno Catalano in 2013. This statue is slightly larger than human size, with a bag in hand, it evokes a traveler in the viewer's mind. The French city of Marseille is the cultural capital of Europe. The creation of this statue was inspired by the personal life of Bruno Catalano. He is originally from Morocco, but when he was 12 years old, he immigrated to France with other family members. This statue is considered one of Bruno's masterpieces and is a symbol of the existence of those who lose parts of themselves and their memories during travel and migration. According to the artist himself, this statue is dedicated to refugees, immigrants and travelers who were forced to leave their homeland.

The fragmented nature of the sculpture represents the idea that migration and travel often leave people incomplete, with parts of themselves lost or missing.
