China has become the leader in the number of patents in the field of generative AI. 🤖 
Between 2014 and 2023, 54 thousand applications for patents related to developments in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI) were filed worldwide. Such data was published yesterday, July 3, by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). A quarter of the applications were submitted last year. Despite the surge in popularity of generative AI since the launch of ChatGPT a year and a half ago, patent applications in this area still make up only 6% of all AI-related filings.
The leader in the number of applications for such patents was China - 38.2 thousand. It was followed by the USA (6.3 thousand), South Korea (4.2 thousand), Japan (3.4 thousand) and India (1. 4 thousand).
