Rule of thirds was correct but in this case I believe the leading lines would have been stronger. Making sure the road line goes to the lock. Especially since now the lock is in the darker area of the photo. Eyes find it easier to wonder towards light.

One step to the right would make the lines of the road go towards the lock and also placed the lock in the lightwrvpart of the image and it could still be at 1/3th of the image.
