I jumped into Shogun after hearing endless praise, and I’m glad I did. It's brilliantly written, directed, and acted, exploring themes of loyalty, duty, honor, and sacrifice without being preachy.

The story avoids modern clichés, portraying Blackthorn as a smart, resourceful man rather than an arrogant Westerner. His relationship with Torunaga, evolves from mutual use to genuine respect, showing two different cultures finding common ground.

Mariko is well-written too. She’s intelligent and composed without falling into the “girl boss” trope.

The production design and cinematography are stunning, vividly depicting 17th century Japan with incredible detail and authenticity. The show captures the strict traditions and pursuit of perfection in Japanese culture, making the world feel real and immersive.

Overall, Shogun is a high-quality, well-crafted show focused on storytelling rather than pushing modern agendas. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
