i tried talking to him yesterday said he was fine but he is clearly not I will give him some space and just let him know I am there if he need someone to talk to !

Just listening would be my best advice. Just let them talk it out. It’s going to be rough regardless, this too shall pass.

Let them know you're there for them if they ever need to talk. Take it one day at a time, every day grief will show up in different ways, and just to be gentle with themselves.
