With both Trump and Putin referencing Napoleon recently, I am hoping that more people would turn into that fascinating period of history. This is a Russian painting of the Battle of Nations in 1913 in Leipzig, the largest battle in Europe before WWI and a huge defeat for Napoleon’s French army

Russia came together with Sweden, Prussia and Austria (Sixth Coalition) to defeat Napoleon who also had German, Italian and Polish men in his massive army. He had to retreat, would be attacked in France next year and forced to abdicate and exiled to Elba island in Italy

How was Napoleon able to conquer so much of Europe and how was the world built after his defeat? Why did he lose at Leipzig? How did this affect the fate of German-speaking lands (on both sides of the war above)?
