As a Valentines Day gift, the team over at /subsquid have made one of the coolest data plugins for Ape we've seen yet!

Here's how to use it search through history, analyse massive amounts of data, and travel through time:

What is Subsquid?

Subsquid is a toolset that let's you grab historical data from 100+ EVM and #Substrate networks. Everything from event logs, tx receipts, traces, and per-tx state diffs!

It lets you see what happened, when, and bundle it all to use in a neat little package!

How is this different than an RPC?

An RPC is better for real time data, having up to the millisecond updates, and executing transactions.

Subsquid on the other hand lets you instantly view enormous stores of historical data, kinda like an irl library

For example if you want fast, you'll get fast.

On longer block ranges (+1k blocks) block retrieval is at least 10x faster than using an RPC!

Basically it's the fastest way to get lots of data ASAP without needing to download a full node!

Try it now!

To install the plugin, simply enter:

ape plugins install "ape-subsquid@git+https://github.com/subsquid/ape-subsquid.git@main"

To source data from Subsquid, just start ape console and enter:

$ ape console --network ethereum:mainnet:geth

then add this kwarg to your queries:

engine_to_use='subsquid'

And you're all set!
