ceo said future chips will be riscv, and the all the recent new chips have riscv cores like the esp32-c and esp32-p series. Probably they save lot of money in licensing fees paid to Cadence for xtensa ISA. https://rb.gy/nxyv9j

that's why still, when people in SV or anywhere in the world look for embedded talent they setup shop in Oulu eg - this is new firm from SV here in Oulu making embedded AI silicon https://oulu.com/en/oulu/current-topics-from-oulu/from-silicon-valley-to-oulu/ https://warpcast.com/anurajenp/0x32baaff2

nokia lost because mobile phones became general purpose computers from embedded systems. the high concentration of embedded software talent in finland rivals that of silicon valley still, hehe https://www.theregister.com/2024/05/05/microsoft_nokia_anniversary/

probably should start using riscv esp32 instead of the xtensa ones. I am too lazy read the xtensa architecture documentation when espressif is going full throttle on riscv. problem is many of the current market devices are still on the xtensa architecture

productive saturday!. Got the inbuilt jtag debugger working for nano esp32 with platformio and arduino framework. It would have been easier to directly use openocd and gdb on the cli. But I wanted to setup PlatformIO because it would be easier for other to use 😇

I mean many of the stack options are vendor/commercial tools and open source tools. The only documentation is their manual and forum posts. For hardware it is the datasheets which many times is shitty and wrong. Many solutions are learnt while on the job by working with an experienced person like an apprenticeship

kind of, each stack has 10s of options to choose from. The only way to know differences among them is to tinker with them. You don’t aquire it by reading about it, which is frustrating.

also I think it takes more than a decade to gain some paid work experience in every layer of the embedded compute stack, all the way from diodes, transistors, assembly, rtos, os, hdl, build systems, programming languages and of course to acquire the taste to choose the correct tooling and stack at correct price point
