Am I the only one to think that most of the time, valet parking is a downgrade? I'm not a car person, I see it as a utility tool, but I'd rather park it myself and in some cases walk a little, rather than let a stranger drive it and give them my keys.

Valet only makes sense in cities like LA or Miami where: 1. There are legitimately fancy places that routinely handle high-end cars and return them to drivers undinged 2. Possibly have security problems, whereby you don't want to leave a nice car on the street

Also, in Miami it's quite normal and they're good at it. Even some residential buildings offer valet as a service for residents. You just don't park your own car.
