q for /djs: what are your thoughts on venue music requirements? depending on the circumstances, i’ve come to find that *often times* these “restrictions” have racial undertones under the guise of “crowd control”. got this text re a monthly residency that i’ve had for 5+ years. i’m not adhering bc wtf lol

Sounds like more they’re trying to change sonic direction. To be fair they did list a very specific time period/genre moment w/ those artists and it is very hypersexualised 90s/00s pop and rap. Yes all black but not relevant. Although Busta Rhymes flow is like insane also his story is very interesting. Hispanic Hip Hop is where it’s clear this taking place in America and they don’t care to learn the names not sure why it’s included but have heard it’s incredibly hypersexualized and misogynistic the lyrics here I like + play all the genres they listed to play and am black and there’s tons of black African and Latin American artists that you can play there also + House was made by black people in Chicago I’ve never had strict venue requirements but also never had a 5+ yr residency so can imagine it might be more of a corporate environment where there could be HR complaints Sorry for the long answer. Just finished playing and loved seeing something like this on the TL whatever the opinion
