The nuclear talks in Muscat today were held in two separate rooms, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaid acting as a mediator between the delegations, the Wall Street Journal reported. A brief face-to-face meeting was held at the end between White House Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Whittaker and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, which reportedly lasted a few minutes and was again attended by the Omani foreign minister. The meeting would be the highest-level meeting between a US and Iranian official since September 2017. During the talks, Iran presented Omani officials with its “red lines,” stating that nuclear disarmament was not on the table, but said it was ready to discuss returning to the level of uranium enrichment agreed to under the 2015 nuclear deal in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions.
