Haha, yeah, I can see how the original hardware would make things even more challenging, gotta love that old school precision or frustration😅 I didn’t realize the analog signal played such a big role in making simple actions harder to execute. thx for the history lesson.

I might lean toward an emulator for convenience. maybe one that connects to a TV i'm sure that exists. Or even an arcade cabinet 😬though I doubt my wife would be on board with that!

It's easy to jump to emulators nowadays since they're so convenient, but the original hardware has the added benefit of being as difficult to play as we remember. This is due to the analog signal sent from the controllers which would give subpixel precision in movement, which would make a lot of simple interactions seemingly harder to execute. I'm not sure when this no longer became a factor; my guess would be the GameCube and its mini CD games.

All this to say— if you want to show your son how hard games were back in the day, look for original consoles 😆
