excellent thread from @v summarizing the spam problem, what they've learned, and the path ahead. if you're worried you've been unfairly labeled as "a spammer" read this thread. Their system is more thoughtful than you might assume and learns quickly. Authenticity is the goal ✨

It's a real problem, and we need to find solutions before we end up like X with spam everywhere. But how many active users are there who aren't spammers? Do we have any figures on that?

not on hand. and anything you get from dune needs to be adjusted. let's assume 15% of the network is comprised of intentional and coordinated spammers. now what?

Let's clean this up to build on solid foundations and establish a genuine network of users.

that's what's happening. but conceptualizing the problem is hugely important. spam/automation is /weather/ now. it's a fact of permissionless systems that needs to effortlessly tolerated. it can never be completely defeated, if at all. at best, we find ways to identify good quality users. but we will never disincentivize spam completely. so we make cozy corners for humans to build their little worlds, free from mechanical actors (unless you invite them). Works... but takes work 🥃
