Would love to see it be developed and maintained, though the maintainers need to be quick to react to changes e.g. long casts

You're right. Currently, the Farcaster protocol is being developed in a very fast path. There's at least one release every week for Hubble. I feel building a new implementation is exciting and important to the network. However, it's hard to build it alone. If I can't collect much possible feedback on this idea, that means it's less possible to make it happen, and that might not be the right time to build it. The reason might be that Farcaster is still in the early stage and anything that works right now might be changed in the future so putting resources into implementing a new Hub might be a waste.

The underlying core protocol is stable, though some changes and additions are always going to happen for the next years
