This is a negotiation game that can be useful in building an understanding community. It's the opposite of the Jackal game we were taught as kids, which is based on principles of blackmail through rewards and criticism. The Jackal game is built on negotiations like "I think that..." and responses like "But I think that..." The Giraffe system offers a model of Observation-Feeling-Need. Alternative to Criticism (Please) ยซI see that you're feeding our 6-year-old with a spoon. I totally understand your need to make sure they eat well, but at the same time, I feel sad because my need to raise an independent child isn't being met with this level of overprotection.ยป Alternative to Reward (Thank You) ยซYour words from the article about the URL-IRL pipeline and the builder's cultural code made my life better and made me feel grateful, realizing why I feel at home here. I even decided to hold my own meetup, receiving lots of positive feedback.ยป

It seems to me that any negotiations are based on active listening, where problems, desires or needs are necessarily voiced. When a person is convinced that you hear him, he will be much more willing to hear you and take part in finding a joint solution. It is important to build a conversation without judgment actions or feelings of your interlocutor and then he will have a desire to meet the dialogue halfway.
