Here are the top 10 takeaways from @justindrake report on solving L2 Fragmentation Problem on @bankless : 1. L2 right now is the division of liquidity across clusters like Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, etc. This division hinders network effects and significantly impedes the ecosystem's TVL growth towards a trln $.

2. To tackle the liquidity fragmentation problem, the L2 ecosystem needs to undergo two phases: a shared sequencer and synchronous transactions at L2, a process that will take several years to complete and is starting this year.

3. There's an 80% chance that most L2s will become "Based rollups," which won't have their own decentralized or centralized sequencer but will share a common sequencer on Ethereum L1.

4. Sequencers will need expensive, high-performance hardware similar to what Solana has, eventually moving towards specialized ASICs. This is necessary for synchronous transmission and complex calculations of zk proofs.

5. Sequencers will be maintained by traditional Ethereum validators with 1000+ ETH staked as collateral against malicious actions.

6. Sufficient synchronization of the shared sequencer at L2 can already be achieved through working with preliminary confirmation by the validator processing the next block.

6.1. Validators of the shared sequencer will receive significant rewards for their work on L2, with 90% of MEV becoming a thing of the past thanks to an encrypted mempool.

7. Traditional asynchronous bridges will become obsolete since there will be no gaps between L2s by design.

8. Eigenlayer, Espresso, Taiko could play a significant role in solving liquidity fragmentation issues. L1 handles data availability, L2 execution, and each is duly rewarded for their work.

9. Proper functionality will require super-wallets, super-validators, and super-apps that operate simultaneously across all zk L2s (Based rollups).

10. With the increased bandwidth of optical cables over time, Ethereum L1 could handle 200 million transactions per second, allowing every person on the planet to make 100 transactions a day. Additionally, the use of disposable, self-destroying signatures will open up fundamentally new possibilities.

11. My personal opinion: 80% of L2s will become bytecode-compatible zk EVMs with a sequencer on L1. They'll join the OP stack, while platforms like Arbitrum and Validium EVMs, such as Polygon, will miss out on the network effects from those moving together in the main peloton and capturing all the major benefits.
