Apollo and Daphne is a tale from Greek mythology that tells the story of unrequited love and transformation. Apollo, the god of the sun, falls deeply in love with the nymph Daphne after being struck by one of Cupid's arrows. However, Daphne, struck by another of Cupid's arrows that incites aversion, flees from Apollo's advances. As Apollo relentlessly pursues her, Daphne prays to her father, the river god Peneus, for help. In response, she is transformed into a laurel tree just as Apollo is about to catch her. Heartbroken, Apollo declares the laurel tree sacred and adorns himself with its leaves, forever honoring Daphne.
