I wouldn't write off someone's science takes based on their macro-economic takes. Macro is notoriously difficult to apply the scientific method to because of the lack of counterfactuals. Fwiw I thought that Friedberg and Chamath were more in agreement than in disagreement: that debts and deficits need to be reduced

The disagreement was just about whether debt-to-gdp is a useful metric to guide policy. I think it's kind of a moot point. There's consensus that if the holder of the reserve currency levers up too much and can't create enough growth to make interest payments it risks losing reserve status
