opensea is at a crossroads regarding its brand identity — will it continue down the path of optimizing for its power users, ie flippers, or will it take a stand and become a platform for creators — especially individual, non-VC backed creators, the lifeblood of the space?

artists by and large already don’t see opensea as the most desirable platform to mint on — many of the features (eg filtering) have prioritized collections with volume over art (eg giving the image more real estate). opensea is the place to go for secondary… i know they want to change that, but this is not how

i don’t think this is wrong, i just think it’s worth calling out. from a pure business standpoint, large collections with a lot of activity and volume make the platform more money — so i imagine decisions will be made to optimize for them. that’s how the big get bigger.

BUT @undefined has a chance here to take a stand — as the largest platform, OS policies set the baseline for the space & have and outsized effect. OS you are a market maker & leader. what might not be best for biz in the short-term might be best for the space for the long-term.

i realize royalties for existing @undefined collections are effectively a social contract — but they are a social contract you can do your best to enforce. if it’s just a signal, it’s one of the most important ones you can make.

it’s feels a bit trite, but it’s true that with great power comes great responsibility. step up @undefined — stand for creators. stand for a different way of things. push the space in the right direction, you have all the power to do so. 🌊
